What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates provides each individual with an opportunity to re-balance their body by targeting and strengthening weakened areas with a variety of exercises undertaken to promote length, strength, flexibility and balance.

From attending our Pilates classes you can expect to improve your posture, flatten your stomach and tone every limb in your body!

If you’ve experienced matwork Pilates before, you’ll know what amazing core-strengthening work it is. However, by adding the spring resistance of the reformer as well as light weights you will experience a new level of total body workout.

The origins of the Pilates reformer date back to the original Pilates studio in New York in the 1920’s and was designed by Joseph Pilates himself. The reformer uses springs, pulleys, bars & straps to perform hundreds of exercises in a variety of positions to target specific muscle groups.

Reformer vs Mat Pilates

Reformer Pilates uses springs to create added resistance to your exercises while mat Pilates only uses your own body weight and focuses on breathing and core control. Reformer Pilates also focuses on this, however, the use of a reformer employs the use of your arms, legs and other muscles.
Which type of Pilates will depend on what you want to get out of your sessions. We believe reformer Pilates encases a full body workout and can be modified for you and your needs.

Classes

Socks. It is mandatory that all classes be performed in socks for safety and hygiene purposes. Non-slip socks are available for purchase if you forget to bring some. We also recommend you bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.

Please wear comfortable exercise attire to every class.

We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to your first session so that our instructor can give you an introduction to some basic moves. For your second and ongoing classes, please arrive on time.

It depends on what you want to get out of your Pilates class, but ongoing classes are highly recommended.
